Post by bellesdad »

OK Boys and Girls,
Need some help for changing the name on a file from .bin to flah.bin. On my computer after I download the file FREESAT_V7_HD_20181102 and opened it I can change the top line as showen but the second line says "type .bin" is this where one changes the file from .bin to flash.bin? If so how do you do this
Help Please

First down load the file to a USB, now unpack/ unZip it, now open the file folder and send the .bin file back to the USB because the receiver want see the file if it's in a folder, once you have done that, left click on the file then right click on the file and select rename, then type flash, then move off the file and left click 1 time and you are done.

You only need the file as "flash.bin" if your unit has bricked.

For normal USB Upgrade, unpack the file as iq180 has said and use that on your USB

Note; the freesat units will not look at any USB over 32Gb and some have trouble with the front USB port and SD card holders.

Here is the flash.bin instructions I now send out for crashed unit. You do not need to do this if your unit still lets you use the menus, the flash.bin recovery is for bricked unit.

flash.bin recovery is done like this.

Place a copy of the unpacked software (the .bin file) on a USB stick and rename it "flash.bin"
With the USB in the unit, power on while repeat pressing "Menu" on the remote. You must use the V7 remote on the V7.
The unit should reload the software.

Also other users say that you must use a USB stick, not a card holder etc and that stick must be 32Gb or under.
Use the rear USB port on units that have two ports.

I have had units that will not recover.
Try using the same software as was in the unit when it crashed, not the new update software.
You must use the correct software, ie that for the V7HD for the V7HD etc, not software for any other freesat units.

Try even older software as the file for flash.bin.

Look at the LED in the USB stick. When the TV shows the message "USB Upgrade, do not turn off" you should see the LED on the USB flash as the file is loaded.
The USB LED should also flash a few times as the unit first powers on and looks at it.
Also users have said to use the rear USB port for this on V8 units.

Good luck
