Bakup of firmware new v7S missing in menu

Post by B34t3rGT »

Hello,

Does anyone knows how to backup the firmware from this new box? it does not include it as part of the backup options, only User and something named program that don't know what it is and after doing a Backup does not show in the availabe files to load it back.

it's a pain to programm 50 boxes with the same configuration, yes the User carries Channel list that can reduce a lot of time but still it is a missing option that could help in case that a recovery bin from a workin box is available in places or times where no internet is available or a PC to download the firmware.

I have the same problem on a out of the box GTMedia V7S.

I'm wondering, because my box "information" says:
Model: V7S (P) 09/03/2018
S/W Version: v.2.2.23.51 09/03/2018
H/W Version: v1.01 05/01/2018

SN V7SA1803**212* ; where * is a digit.

I'm worried about, because I really can't find a 09/03/2018 firmware version... which version my box was out of production?

I really don't know what filename does "USB Upgrade" expects. I guess it expects a GTMedia_v7s.bin file at USB root. It doesn't work. I tested renaming file to Freesat_v7s.bin but it doesn't work either.

USB Backups did in the tool are not readed from Usb Upgrade neither (as previous post).

Please, can anyone support us on this? How its supposed we will update our boxes if box doesn't read the files?

Thanks.

this, or any other firmware, or usb backup (user db) are not showed when in "USB Upgrade" page.

I rename .bin file to GTMedia_V7s.bit, Freesat_V7s.bin or flash.bin and file is not showed so it can't be flashed.
Neither GTMedia_V7s_db.bin, created by "USB Backup" utility on receiver is showed.

That's the issue.

It does work for me, my bet is in a problem with your USB flash drive, make sure that is fat32

Its format is FAT32, I test it on a 16Gb USB drive, but unit is read ok elsewhere (timeshift file is created when I plug the usb, I can play media, backup user db -but can't restore/upgrade it-, etc...).

I used the flash.bin + power_on + menu key (to FUP9 state), and uploaded last firmware (this method is OK, but risky, I tryed 05-03 firmware, and a black screen (HDMI don't working -not detected signal on TV-) after LOAD display was showed on HDMI), but uploading 23-04 FW by this method works ok. By that I have to afirm that size/format of USB is not the problem, as the hardware can read a file to flash it in preloading.

In new firmware, the unit is unable to upgrade the user db created on itself, or load any other FW by normal method.

That's all I know about the issue.

Things I don't know:

- Exact filename / folder where "USB Upgrade" expects to find the upgrade (firmware, user_db, etc). Freesat_v7s.bin? GTMedia_v7s.bin? flash.bin? None of them is showed in USB Upgrade if I rename the firmware, but its loaded by FUP9 method if renamed to flash.bin
- Is 09-04-2018 an official firmware? As it's not in the official list.
- Are Units sold out with this firmware in, different or limited to known official FW version sold units?
- How to solve this issue so every new FW could be uploaded by normal method? How can owners of this affected units use backup/restore user_db?

My brand new box is:
Model: V7S (P) 09/03/2018
S/W Version: v.2.2.23.51 09/03/2018
H/W Version: v1.01 09/03/2018
SN V7SA1803**22** ; where * is a digit. (like 100+ later)

Same as yours, but in my case I have no problem in making a backup of the USER settings, and load it back and recognized as GTmedia_V7S_db.bin
and also I was able to load the update as All code named GTmedia_V7S.bin.

therefore all I can think of is IF your flash drive is Ok, then you are unlucky with factory failure (you should try Factory reset if you haven't)

When I did the upgrade got this:
Model: V7S (P) 22/03/2018
S/W Version: v.2.2.23.51 23/03/2018
H/W Version: v1.01 09/03/2018
SN V7SA1803**22** ; where * is a digit. (like 100+ later)

note that the H/W versión is the same but date is different

but still NO OPTION to do a FULL BACKUP of the firmware with my own changes

That's exactly what I've said, and that's a bad thing when you want to do a backup with your full settings including the softcam, instead of using one file to program a new box you need 3 files. the v8S have the option, the v7 HD have the option, the v7 MAX have the option, and now the NEW UPGRADED versión of the v7 HD the v7S HD doesn't that's sad.

Hello, going to try the new firmware, BUT I have a question now, there's a change in the way the firmware is named, I'm goign to use it in America, the previous versions didn't specify Europe, is something different about it? or should I wait for a release NOT named ?Europe?

Thanks for your time

Nevermind, in the download page there's no info about it, but inside the compressed file in the pdf is explained the reason of the name change.

even tho the STB in the hardware specs the momory is double than the previous version and the pdf claims that is for lack od space, seems that didn't quite think it well in the deign departamente, they should have chosen a even bigger memory design.

But as long as it works with the needed changes, I'm happy. I'll let you know about it.

Tested it, and now I'm happy with it.
The backup firmware with all my settings is exported as: GTMedia_V7S_V2.2.25.77.bin

Great work from the coders!
