One issue I have heard of is that it uses a lot of CPU time to decode / reassemble H265 and can make your processor very hot.
With a small unit like the V7HD that could kill it.

And what about the cpu in v8 golden. Can it handle it?

From what I have heard it effects all cpu's.
H265 is a compression format that uses less data but takes a lot of cpu time to put back together.
It was setup for cell phones so cell networks could use less data.

Yes I think it would place more heat into the V8 as well. I do find that the V7 gets hotter on the outer case, but it is heat at the CPU that is said to reduce the life of the CPU.

I get it. H265 is a feature which is cool, but not a necessity. We can do without it :)
Also, Owen, do you know when the new firmware is gomna get released? And do you know what they will bring with the new update?

I don't work for Freesat so I wait like you for the updates.

H265 will become more used and we may have to get tuners that receive it.
I have one already, my Amico A3.
There are H265 test channels up on Intelsat 19ku here in Australia and NZ.
