Bugs! V8 Future Software bug Fixes please!!!

Post by rj2010 »

I have a V8 Golden.. After all these latest software updates some bugs where fixed and some new bugs where found.. On intelsat-20C channels used to play fine etc sony six? My meter will say signal is 47-50% and freesat decoder will say its 38-40% and channels play without freezing.. Now my channels show 39-40% signal and picture freeze alot while sound in background plays just fine without freezing.? Also found bug in diseq switch.. Im using diseq-1.1 8 port switch again it worked fine before! But for some reason i cant switch between my 3 satellites correctly!? I can watch intelsat 10-02. Than when i switch to intelsat-20c it shows no signal. Then i power device down and power it up again then channels play. Can freesat make a option in antenna settings if using diseq the lnb power automatically goes off and then on when switched between satellites so diseq can work correctly??

Hi

The newer software has an option in the menus for "DiSEqC".
The older software sent the DiSEqC instructions twice and this option allows for that or just once. Once is the default.
The advantage of the once only is that the command string is over before the unit tests for a good picture signal.
Before this it would look for a good picture signal before the switching had been completed and report "No Signal" even though a good picture was just there, and then it would resend the DiSEqC commands again and again for ever. With a sat finder you see four pulses of 22kHz commands being sent. The new software sends only two.

I also use an 8 port and then many 4 port switches.
I have had problems with the over current protection tripping in when the 8 port switch powers up the next 4 port switch and the LNB.
This cuts the power for a moment and resets the 8 port switch to port 1.
I solved this by adding a signal splitter (a splitter that separates UHF and Sat freqs) at the LNB input of the STB.
This adds some impedance to the circuit that limits the current surge and stops the over current from tripping.
A basic dumb sat finder will also help limit current when placed at the STB.

The very early V7HD did not have this problem but the newer ones since early 2016 have. The V8's also have this problem.

The LNB power needs to be "ON" when switching the DiSEqC switches, or they will not work.

If you are using only three sats try using the DiSEqC 1.0 commands instead, as some 8 port switches will act like 1.0 switches when they get 1.0 commands. That is they will not do an "Uncommitted " switching.
I also have problems with my USALS mover through the 8 port switch with these current limit cuts, Even on port 1.

Good luck

Thanks for the response owen.. I wil try to get a splitter and see how it performs.. As im planning to get the v7 max model to see performance and quality..

Does cable lengths play a role in performance of the DISEq switch? Cause my cable is running 11meter from 3.1m dish to switch then 18m cabe from switch to v8 decoder..

I run cables that long here with no problem, other than as mentioned before with the over current.
The over current thing happens with short cables too.

If you have any other splitters of sat frequency, try them in circuit at the STB.
And as I said a cheap sat finder will help too.
Here's two pics I sent to Freesat showing working and non working setups.
The "No Work" pic shows port one powered on due to fault.

Found solution!
Iv change my cables.. The white COAX cable wasnt doing it for me.. So i used a black coax cable. I used a cctv camera cable but only the coax cable of it.. Diseq switch working good. Signal have increased 1/half.. Strange.. Saw quality went up a little bit..in some channels. But now switching from is20 to is10-02 to Apstar just fine..
However i did see what you ment the diseq always goes back to port1 and if i switch sat that is on port 3 it shows no signal but when i remove cable from port 1 all work.. But seems to be fine now.. After the new cable..

That may be because you have a faulty port.
I have found that if you short out a cable it burns the port to always "ON".
In effect you have two sats connected at once and any common frequencies are not received.
I have switches with this that I still use by just not using the shorted port, in you case port 1, or maybe port 3.
