In Germany the most popular satellite position is Astra 19.2ºE for this three reasons.
-Most popular German TV channels are on this satellite from many years ago. FTA channels are mainly the SD channels with the exception of some the german public TV service (Das Erste, ZDF, etc) broadcasting FTA on HD.
-HD versions of the german private channels (Pro7, Sat 1, Kabel 1, Vox, Eurosport, etc) are under subscription under HD+ smartcard (www. hd-plus .de), (similar service to Tivusat in Italy or Fransat in France). www. flysat. com/en/package/hd-2/astra-19

Other popular satellite in Germany is Eutelsat 9ºE. This position has plenty of encrypted german channels for cable operators (KabelKiosk), with only a few FTA channels.

In the past also Eutelsat 13ºE (Hotbird) was also a quite popular satellite in this country. (Many users still have a double LNB dish: Astra 19.2ºE+Eutelsat 13ºE). Now only a couple of german channels are still on Eutelsat 13ºE and not on Astra 19.2º (One Music TV, Zwei Music TV).
