What can happen if you get the wrong file when upgrading a V8?
For example, taking a file for the V8 Pro to Super or vice versa.
Does the machine sink or ... ???

Re: Firmware...updating
Yes, it will brick your unit.
Re: Firmware...updating
I have done this by mistake.
The unit looks at the file to be loaded and rejects it, just like some units now reject older versions of software for the same unit.
Yes if it did load it would likely brick the unit.

Re: Firmware...updating
Opps ... if loaded wrong file, is the unit broken then?
Or is there any help available?
The machine did not say there was an incorrect file loaded.

Re: Firmware...updating
Place a copy of the software on a USB stick and rename it "flash.bin"
With the USB in the Freesat unit, power on while repeat pressing "Menu".
The unit should reload the software.

Re: Firmware...updating
There is the RS232 method.
Here is a link to how to do it on a V8 Finder.
Here is the tool.
Here is a discussion on RS232 flashing.
Good luck

Re: Firmware...updating
I got a living in my receiver now, using an RS 232 cable.
But it does not seem so stable, seems to freeze for the smallest, so I have to unplug the power supply for it to wake up.
Have tested several different software ex. 191, 420 and 572 and everyone is just as bad.
It seems that the software is very similar to a recipient I had in advance, a Golden Media Unibox2, it was very unstable at first, but then, some private person made a software and it became more stable.
Seems to be a bad receiver ... but luckily it is not so expensive ...
