V8 Finder RS232 connector?

Post by Otis »

While updating my V8 Finder channel lists/ User DB my unit quit working, turning it on after the GTMedia boot screen I just got a blank screen. Restarting didn't help.
I used the flash.bin recovery method and got it going again, and a second try at updating my channel lists (from my V7HD STB) worked.

I decided to go ahead and read up on the RS232 method of recovery, and noticed that the back of my V8Finder is different then the one shown in the article, which has a battery door, and mine does not. I assume that the one in the article is a 1st generation and mine is a 2nd generation, (HW Version 1.1.0 25/07/2017) (SW Version V3.02.121.665) if not, what is the difference? and I guess that removing the back I would find the data connector inside? I'm asking because I don't want to break the seal on the side and void my warranty.

I take it that you are referring to this instruction on RS232 for the finder.

I got a new V8 Finder only a few months back and I had not taken it out of its cover.
Yes there is no battery cover.

I opened mine and there is still a RS232 connection on the board in the same place.
It does seam that you will break your warranty seal to use the RS232 connection.
If you need to use it then your unit is dead if you don't break the seal.
Here is a pic.
