A F N Networks have announced to move their Channels from Intelsat 10-02 to SES5 for DTH Atlantic ocean Region

Post by CHI »

As you know the reception of A F N channels has two modes. One is DTH and the other is DTS. DTH Means Direct To Home satelite while DTS means Direct To Sailors Satellite. DTH covers Galaxy 16 at 99w, SES 5 at 5e, Intelsat 18 at 180w, Koreasat 5a at 113e and Eutelsat 9b at 9e
DTS Covers Intelsat 35E at 35w, Intelsat 906 at 64.5e and NSS9 at 177w which replaced Intelsat 18 global on 12 June, 2018.
**********************"
Now, the A F N networks have anounced that from 31 October, 2018, those watchning A F N through IS 10-2 wont be able to watch anymore as those channels will stop being broadcasted at IS 10-2 officially at 31 October, 2018 and the Official transition will start at 04th September, 2018.
Currently as part of preparation the A F N networks have already started test transmittion at SES 5 since July, 2018 and those able to access SES 5 at 5e are currently watching A F N and freesat boxes are rolling it.
So on 4th September, 2018 the transition will take effect and come October 31, 2018 the channels will completely be off at IS10-2.

Hi CHI ..

Iv seen eutelsat 10a working with 1m offset..
Have u tried using a offset 1m-1.2m with scaller ring on ses5? Thinking about trying it..

It could be two possibilities they are migrating.

1) IS10-2 is almost at the end of life span
2) SES is aggressively trying to gain sat market with great prices on long contracts
3) SES 5 is a newer technology and applies both of above

No i haven't!
Given that they are on ses5 cband side, 1-1.2m offset dish with a cband lnb may prove to be an issue, at least for now because even with 1.8 prime focus the signal quality is not beyond 60.

I have noticed it wont go pass 60% on my 1.8 my current problem with ses5 A F N is that at night signal jumps around 15-60% every 3seconds while all the other singals are stable from 48% and 90% only A F N is having problems.. In day all works 100% But with signal quality it won't pass 60% on ses5 also at is10-02 60% seems to be the highest i get.. I also saw somewhere someone's setup and he seems to also get 60% quality highest? So is it only 60% max on A F N?

That is max for 1.8, although at times it may go up to 63.
The reason for instability is that they are still on test transmision as they are moving from 1w to SES5 and hence they still need to make some technical adjustments.

According to flysat-beams you should be able to, the A F N channels are on the SES-5 Hemi C-band beam,
you're within the 39 dBW range (115-145 cm) so 1.15m or bigger
have a look here - http://www.flysat-beams.com/ses5-beam.php

I believe you will get around 90% signal strength but no more than 69% quality. If that is the case you will do great the bigger dish you will see increase quality and signal strength remains almost the same
Please post results

Hi,
Just a follow up on our earlier discussion regarding the new Satelite. What is the best LNB to use on this new Satelite,is it 17k,15k or 13k on this part of the region?

Experience says those are just labels that manufacturers print! The best is go with a popular lnb in your local area.
You may think 13k does better than 17k but practically may disappoint.
So go with what popular in your local area.
For example in most African countries there is heating problem. Some lnbs do not handle the heat pretty well, thus their noise figure may be rendered useless!

Actually if he is really good he may get 60-63 with 1.8m but not more than 66.
The A F N signal is very weak now than when they migrated in SES5. Back then max was 66 but now maximum is 60 and they appear and disappear.

Hi guys,
Has anyone used the Gulf Star C-LNB for the new A F N Satelite with the following specifications
Input. :3.4-4.2Ghz
Output Freq.:950-1750Mhz
Low Freg: :5.15Ghz
Noise Figure :15K
Was given the above by a friend to try.

Gulf star lnb it does better.
I use that for A F N but I have to be honest you have to be really good to get it. Its signal quality is very weak!

Manage to get TVC channel 3702H49999 signal quality on SES5 to 72 and above then A F N will pop in when you blind scan!
