There are instructions on "flashing" Freesat units to recover them.

Search "Unpacked" to find these.

If you have a clone unit then updating with Freesat software may permantly brick the unit.
There is a post in the Announcements section at the top of this, Finder forum.

Re: not boot GTMedia V8 Finder Meter V73 HD after update

Post by rajarsr »

The GTMEDIA V8 Finder Meter V73HD which I brought recently has a problem. I gave the first update of first released software ( GTMEDIA_V8FinderMeter_20190219.zip ). Immediately after the update the product is not working. When the product is switched on the logo appears and then hangs. The original versions given along the product are mentioned below.

H/W : V1.20- March.01.2019

S/W : V105.5.127 – April.02.2019

So, I kindly request you to give the recovery solutions for the above mentioned problem as soon as possible.

Thank You.

Still nothing.

My dead unit shows nothing on the screen and the four LEDs are lit, Power 22k 13/18v and lock.

That your unit went to the menu based USB file upgrade suggests that your unit was working and the back key is some short cut to the upgrade menu.

I still have not heard from Freesat / Lining if these units have a recovery system.

Especially in changing the file name

But the screen was showing a message
USB upgrade does not turn off the power
This is a defect in the software or a copy of the device, unlike other modern versions that display the file, once the flash enters the device, such as a version.

Did you get your unit to work again?
Remember that the flash.bin method is only for a crashed unit, if you still can use the menu upgrade using the menu.
Also you need to unpack the .zip folder and use the .bin file inside.
You can only use the software f0r the model you have, V71 for V71 and V73 for V73 etc.

Yes, my unit is back in action
After pausing in the boot logo
This is because the battery is damaged
Several times I tried to open and close the unit
This caused the working system to fall
So I bought a new battery
And download the program unit
I used a method
Flash.bin

Here are my notes on flash.bin recovery.

Owen

flash.bin recovery is done like this.

Place a copy of the unpacked software (the .bin file) on a USB stick and rename it "flash.bin"
With the USB in the unit, power on while repeat pressing "Menu" on the remote.
The unit should reload the software.

Also other users say that you must use a USB stick, not a card holder etc and that stick must be 32Gb or under.
Use the rear USB port on units that have two ports.

I have had units that will not recover.
Try using the same software as was in the unit when it crashed, not the new update software.
You must use the correct software, ie that for the V7HD for the V7HD etc, not software for any other freesat units.

Try even older software as the file for flash.bin.

Look at the LED in the USB stick. When the TV shows the message "USB Upgrade, do not turn off" you should see the LED on the USB flash as the file is loaded.
The USB LED should also flash a few times as the unit first powers on and looks at it.
Also users have said to use the rear USB port for this on V8 units.

Good luck

New information: Users are reporting that naming the file "Flash.bin" with a capital has worked where "flash.bin" has not.
