H265?

Post by highswr »

Which of the Freesats decode H.265?
Freesat V8 combo ?
Freesat V8 pro ?
Freesat V8 golden ?
Freesat V8 nova ?

Is H.265 in use? Can someone give me a NA satellite using it?

Thanks cpr43

I've been looking at the new product announcements and it looks like the V8 Nova does H265 too.

Is this important like the switch to HD or just fluff?

As mentioned before , only the Freesat GTC will open or play H.265 in North America. V8 Nova/ V9 will scan the channels in but will not play.

Please have in mind that H.265 stands for a compression method that is used commonly to compress 4k transmissions.
A receiver that handles that decompression method not necesarily carries and supports video displaying at 3840 X 2160 resolution

well said

H265 DOES NOT mean 4k UHD, it just the coding for video compression.

as per that standard works up to 8K, and can be used for 480 .... 1080 to 8192

So when you buy a receiver do NOT look for H.265 only but
UHD ready
4K ready
or 3840 pixels x 2160

Compare these models and look for the Line that says VIDEO DECODER
