DVB native apk. settings, FAQs and bugs

Post by wikjan »

As I know DVB GTmedia native aplication is the only one which works with onboard DVB S2/T2/C tuners on unrooted Android GT media boxes.
It is important to become familiar with settings, guides and bugs.
Unfortunately I coludn't find a guide for DVB apk on our forum

So because of that I am starting this topic.

My first questions are about DVB menu TV Setting section AV Setting
What does it mean Blackout Policy OFF ? ON ?
What is LCN OFF ? ON?

I found myself that LCN means logical channel numbering by cable or satellite operators.
Change from OFF to ON mades the new order of channels

PVR function bugs
Good working channel recording is very important for many users of DVB boxes.
Unfortunately GTC DVB apk. has bugs.
Timer recording don't work. (Timer can only wake up box to play channel)
Instant recording works but not the way it should.
Channel recording doesn't start after first pressing the red PVR or REC button . Instead of that there is popup window to set the duration of recording.
The recording starts only after setting time and approval by yes.
The correct way should be as in the GTC manual and other recorders.
Press once red button to record the current program
Press again to set duration of recording.

Other bugs less important than PVR related bugs

Main screen weather bug (maybe invalid data for weather server)
Info bar bug - instead of end time of the current programm there is doubled beginning time
Sorting channels bug - aplication sometimes freezes without changing channel order

There are probably also some other bugs reported in other posts related to DVB native apk.

Missing buttons in new version of remote control

There are some buttons from the older remote control which are not present in the new one.
Everybody can see the difference.
The most missing buttons for me are : AUDIO (to switch the language) and SUB-T ( to toggle subtitles)
I think it would be very helpful to add these two functions in new remote control .
It can be done by use of GREEN and YELLOW buttons (the same way as RED is used for instant recording and BLUE for favourites)

Remarks after software updates (C20.A6.3.43 & C20.A6.2.43)
The major timer recording bug is fixed in software versions C20.A6.3.43 (which updates C20.A6.3.40) and C20.A6.2.43 (which updates C20.A6.2.41).
After update DVB apk. records scheduled program when the set time has been reached.
There are some exceptions or limitations:
- timer recording is not possible when the box is shut down ( power key should be set to suspend / resume mode to prevent that situation )
- timer recording not works with my 32GB USB exFAT stick although I can record on it using PVR red button ( I have no idea if 32GB are under timer recording limit or there are other reasons)

There is still minor bug in instant recording function. Channel recording doesn't start after first pressing the red PVR or REC button as user is forced to set recording duration. Recording should start immediately after first pressing of button. It is very important as there is no timeshift functionality.

Info bar bug ( instead of end time of the current program there is doubled beginning time) is not fixed

Navigation in EPG is a bit strange and impractical (I didn’t notice any improvements)

I have no idea if OSCAM update gave any changes for better

By the way painful for some users main screen weather bug is fixed.

My next observations

1. The channel selection by their number works good for me now after update to C20.A6.3.43 firmware
2. Oscam seems to work a bit better (probably consumes a bit more memory)
3. The info bar is still not synchronised with channel change - when I toggle to another program, quite often, the info bar shows data from the previous channel

Hi,
Changing channel still frezzes a lot. I need to exit app and enter again to make it work, and that doesn't last for long..

There is a need in Android TV system to clean RAM memory.
If you use more than 10 CCcam lines or more than 10 OScam readers it also consumes memory.
So it is strongly recomended for android devices to turn off / turn on at least once a week
You should also know that more aplications you open means more memory consuming.
Use top right circle to clean memory and recent apk. tab to close opened but not used aplications
It is same as in android smartphones.
But if it is none of the mentioned reasons check memory usage .

On some channels it can happen even if the memory usage is about 50%
So notice these channels and try to skip them to avoid your problem

"The owls are not what they seem" --- the sentence from Twin Peaks is often true
I noticed today that sometimes the channel selection by their number doesn't work.
I added one new channel for my favorites and then the selection by number stopped
After box power off /power on, the channel selection by their number worked good.
I'm sorry if I misinformed someone.
The other user in other topic suggested that it can also happen after leaving DVB apk., watching something on You Tube , and finally going back to DVB again.

I have bought gtc freesat a week ago, but I can say that dtv apk really sucks.
-too slow on dvb-t2 when I change channel
-can not find a channel searching by text
-when I am on channel list I must press ok, then press exit button to watch the channel

The new remote that I have doesn't have play, pause, stop, move forward, backward, audio, subtitle buttons.

I had xxxxdvb-t2/s2 before and it was perfect. Their dvb apk was perfect... and remote to. I bought gtc for more ram and rom memory, but it sucks on dtv apk.

Do you know if I can install other dtv apk... Did you ever tried guys?

@ floreentin

At least you have learned in your own example that choosing a new receiver based on a larger ROM and RAM memory was not a good idea (It's always wrong idea).
I can only confirm that the issues you mentioned are annoying.

I have tried 2 DVB apk from other brand but they are not worked or even not installed.
I've also tried with KODI and available "addons " (I mean TVheadend as local server and PVR as local client) but without success.
Probably GTC dvb tuners are disabled for other aplications
So it seems that the only idea is to root Android, change boot to load when needed additional system on SD card with working DVB apk.
But it is for very advanced users only, and with no guarantee that it will work

Current DVB software issues
1. The selection of channels from the list does not work as it should. After selecting and pressing OK, the channel appears only in the background and there is a need to press EXIT to watch the program
2. Channel selection by number does not always work.In such cases there can occur a change on current channel selection list only (press OK to see it)
3. Timer recording is limited. To be sure you don't miss your favorite movie you can not turn off the receiver into the stand by mode
4. Immediate recording is not possible - you are forced to input duration of the recording before it starts
5.The EPG navigation is strange and impractical. The field of the currently broadcast program of the selected channel is not highlighted
6. The info bar - is not synchronized with channel change (some info from previous channel or missing info -resolution, signal state). Wrong ending time of the current broadcast.
7. DiSEqC 1.3 (USALS) problems were reported by one user.
8. New remote is impractical for DVB apk. - I suggest add GREEN for audio language change and YELLOW for subtitle toggle.

Also look at my other topics:

GTC is slow on many applications, it's not bad for the price, RAM is shared between 2 devices basically, DVB & Android, 2GB is not enough!

The teletext feature of a channel does not work on GTS or GTC. I tested yesterday on a channel with Teletext available does not work. I tested it on another receiver with Android system the teletext feature worked without problems. Some channels with SD image and H.265 video codec on the 8°W C Band are pixelated and locked.

Hi,

Also high level signal satellite transponders have no signal on DVB-S2 apk. A network scan will be fantastic to recover missing transponders...
Tested on Thor5,6,7/Intelsat10-02 (0,8E).

Peace

Hi,i buy this box, this is my short review

Plus:
-good picture HD and SD
-fast zapp channels in T2 and S2(2-3 sec.)
-nice interface
- fast in switch ON/OFF(no boot every time when switch on)
-cccam work good
-ok remote(for this pricerange)

Minus:
-when switching channel in(S2T2) list, the list dont disapare,I must press exit every time(this must solved in future)
-numbers on the remote control dont work when switch channel!(S2T2)
-to mani information in channell list,no need videopid etc...it's nicer when it's smaller list, not over full-screen
-scrambled letters is to big
-white color of box(nicer is black,my subjective opinion)

For now I am satisfied, android part not tested yet, sorry for bad english

For me it is total misunderstanding to treat remote as a plus.
There are some important buttons that are missing in new remote (Audio, SUB-T, player & record).
You need to aim well with the remote control due to the low sensitivity of the infrared receiver

The next misunderstanding... about to much information
Information in channel lists is very useful in many situations (eg. channel management or oscam optimization)
Only beginner could complain about that, unless you are a crazy one, who prefers watching channel list than TV program

You was right - The diseqc port enable workaround did the trick. Now all the channels al doubled or trippled. Anyway, the channels are there.

Many thanks osc543.

"Now all the channels al doubled or trippled"

Delate all channels from list, then re-scan again.

DVB-C doesn't recognise most of channels to compare with TV-set on the same cable. I guess something wrong with passing parameters for set up.
The rest of channels as well as all DVB-T2 have quality downgrading from HD to 576i. But then turn on teletext/EPG the visible quality of picture on the screen increased very much. That a magic!
BTW, after exit DVB app doesn't stop and continue stream small picture and sound. I can stop DVB app from Android only. Is that bug or feature?

Ok, the good way to set up of DVB-C is doing installation via Range Scan option. Then all 999 channels from tv provider recognized well.

I still need software button in menu of DVB to switch TV and Radio channels.

After update new software v.C20.A6.3.45 :
-signal for T2/S2 is OK!
-switching channel in T2/S2 with remote numbers is OK

bug:
-when watching T2/S2 and want exit with exit button on remote, this no work properly( I can get out only with home button )

suggestion for developers:
- add option in menu(on/off),to automatic switch to full screen in t2/s2 after turn on box

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions, GTMEDIA team will consider to add them to the development plan.
